French union issues support for SETU workers protesting Red Hat links to Israeli military

SETU has faced controversy over Red Hat's links to IDF.
A major French union have issued a message of solidarity with workers at South East Technological University (SETU) regarding Red Hat and their connection to Israeli military.
Solidaires Informatique have issued their support for workers at Red Hat, particularly workers at SETU, over the controversial links between the company and Israeli Defence Forces (IDF).
In a statement, the union wrote: "In light of ongoing human rights violations and militarised oppression against Palestinians, Red Hat workers in Ireland, and across the globe, as well as the staff of education institutions that Red Hat has connections with such as South East Technological University (SETU) Ireland, have the right to voice their opposition to the company’s unethical practices.
"It is essential that workers be allowed to freely and collectively raise concerns about the company’s conduct without fear of punishment or retribution."
Over the past year, both SETU and Red Hat have faced calls to sever links with Israeli military due to the deaths of thousands of Palestinians since October 7, 2023.
Over 40,000 Palestinian men, women and children have died due to Israeli military action and sanctions.
On Red Hat Ireland's webpage, there was a Customer Success profile that lauded their Mamram technology;
“Red Hat already delivered a number of key successes for IDF, and extensive research into Red Hat's roadmap to edge computing helped Mamram decide that Red Hat would be an ideal partner. Mamram particularly relied on Red Hat Consulting, including its solution architects and professional services support, to help guide the project through.”
In May 2024, over 180 members of SETU staff signed a letter calling on the university to sever ties with Red Hat and call for a permanent ceasefire.
