The fountain in the People's Park in Waterford city centre is currently being refurbished and is also due to be upgraded.
The park, which initially had St John's River diverted around it in 1857, is still Waterford city's largest park grounds, and last year saw an accessibility swing added to its amenities to cater for people with additional or special needs. One element of the refurbishment of the park's fountain is expected to include the modification of the existing fountain basin.
This modification will allow for installation of a new spray ring system, with central jets and the electrical installation of fountain dynamic lighting, including water treatment and a recirculating pumped system.
Waterford City and County Council confirmed the cost of the project will amount to €150,000.
