Five drivers were arrested on Tuesday, February 17, on suspicion of drug and drink driving offences as Operation Intro checkpoints were carried out in Waterford and South Kilkenny.
The checkpoints were part of Operation Intro, which is a large scale roads policing initiative specficially aimed at targeting intoxicated driving and other offences.

In an online post Waterford Gardaí stated: 'Kilkenny and Waterford Roads Policing members under the stewardship of Inspector Paul Donohoe worked alongside new Garda Probationers. The aim was to promote on-the-job learning and improve road safety for all.".

"Four suspected drug drivers and one suspected drunk driver were arrested today and a number of cars were seized," said the Gardaí.

The vehicles were seized for no insurance and on suspicion of being dangerously defective.

"Later on in the day, multiple HGV drivers were stopped near Belview Port with very high levels of compliance noted," stated the Gardaí.
"The day was a success and we all learned something," the added.
