This May, there will be a marathon rowing event happening in Waterford in aid of the Solas Centre. Teams of five will gather at 9 am on Saturday, May 29, to row 42.2 kilometres. Organiser of the event, Eamon Cullen, told the that he expects it will take three to four hours to complete, depending on each team's fitness levels.
Mr Cullen promises that the marathon will be a great community event and could be a good alternative for those who normally do the Darkness Into Light walk and wish to take part in a charity event.
Participants of all fitness levels are welcome and team members will share the distance. You can either register as a team of five or as a single person, and you will be placed within a team. Each team will be tasked with raising €1,000. With thirty teams already registered, Waypoint Gym will be full of energy and excitement on the day.
In a post on social media, the gym said, “Every kilometre rowed will help ensure that the Solas Cancer Support Centre can continue to provide free professional supports services to families affected by a cancer experience.”
