Firefighters to the rescue on Waterford's O'Connell Street
Two fire brigades were attended the scene on O'Connell Street.
Firefighters quickly saved the day on O'Connell Street after a telephone pole went on fire due to an 'electrical surge'.
On Wednesday afternoon, January 7, an electrical fire broke out at a pole on the corner of O'Connell Street and Thomas Street.
Onlookers spoke about seeing a telephone pole 'on fire' as two fire brigades rushed to put out the flames. The Asian Family Supermarket was sealed off for a short period as emergency service workers secured the area.
One firefighter said that the fire came about due to an 'electrical surge' and that ESB were expected to handle the aftermath.
Thankfully, no one came to any harm during the incident.
