Eye clinic to be constructed at former Waterford Crystal offices, creating 22 new jobs
‘Building One’, the initial 80,000 sq ft flagship office building of the Glassworks University Enterprise Quarter
Permission has been granted for the development of an eye care medical facility at the former Waterford Crystal offices in Kilbarry.
The facility will be operated by Veonet Ireland, who provide services such as cataract surgery, glaucoma treatment and vitreous-retinal procedures.
This will be the provider's third facility in the Republic.
The clinic will accommodate five diagnostic rooms and six consultation rooms, along with a theatre and recovery area.
Planning documents outline that the facility could employ approximately 22 optometrists, ophthalmologists, nurses, administrative and support staff.
The clinic will operate during normal daily hours and with emergency eye care services available 24/7 if required.
“The establishment of Veonet-Ireland represents a significant advancement in eye healthcare for the southeast region” a planning report states.
The approved eye care clinic will be contained within the former Crystal office building, which in recent months has been brought back from dereliction through a major revamp. The renovations form part of the €130 million ‘Glassworks’ initiative, driven by the South East Technological University (SETU).
When fully complete and occupied, the 80,000 square foot, four-storey commercial building will not only contain the eye clinic, but will have capacity for 800 employees and will be Waterford’s first purpose-built, BER A3 rated office building.
