Metropolitan Councillor Donal Barry has said he would like to see the Tramore Promenade expanded.
Cllr Barry asked at the February sitting of the Metropolitan District Council if a feasibility study could be carried out.
He said an expansion would enhance Tramore’s offering to both residents and visitors.
“I’ve raised it before, and it was shot down immediately, was the potential to expand the fabulous Promenade in Tramore down as far as the end of the carpark to allow easier access for pedestrians, especially those with mobility issues.
“It would allow people to continue their walk without having to jump or step down from the prom to continue along the walkway, and equally important it would be an attraction for tourists to have such a long promenade and open up opportunities for businesses in the area,” said Cllr Barry.
Michael Quinn said it is not on their list currently for this year but would put it on a list for consideration.
Separately, Cllr Jim Griffin asked the council for permission to set up a GoFundMe to raise money to fix the lights at the helicopter memorial in Tramore.
He said there is a committee in place in the town, that organised for an electrician to come in and assess the system.
“The helicopter memorial it will be a momentous passing in a few years’ time. But the lights are on then, the lights are off.
“We got an electrical contractor to look at the whole system, and it was never fit for standard. It wouldn’t take a small storm, never mind a big storm, and (it requires) around €3,000-4,000 to bring it up to standard.
Cllr Griffin asked that if the council do not have a budget, can the committee get permission for a GoFundMe campaign.
