A case of littering was heard at Waterford District Court last week.

Waterford City and County Council took the case against Leanne Smith, of 14 Waterside, Waterford, for littering under the Litter Pollution Act 1997, to which Ms Smith pleaded guilty.

A photo was shown to the court in relation to a complaint made on May 31, 2024, concerning a black sack found in the River Suir.

Evidence relating to the defendant was found therein.

Ms Smith had no prior conviction for this type of offence.

Judge Kevin Staunton said that there was “no way” Ms Smith would pay the fine, noting that he knew her.

He applied the Probation Act in relation to the case.
