Elderly woman dies in crash on outskirts of Waterford city

The two-vehicle collision occurred on the N25 at Luffany near the Rhu Glenn Hotel at approximately 5:50pm.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision on the outskirts of Waterford city, yesterday evening, Friday, January 3, 2025.
The two-vehicle collision occurred on the N25 at Luffany, Slieverue, near the Rhu Glenn Hotel, at approximately 5:50pm during peak commuter time between Waterford and Wexford.
The driver of one of the cars, a woman in her 70s, was fatally injured and pronounced deceased at the scene. Her body was removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Waterford, where a post-mortem examination is due to take place.
The driver of the other car, a man in his 30s, and a passenger in that car, a woman in her 20s, were conveyed to University Hospital Waterford for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The N25 road remains closed this morning between the Luffany Roundabout and the Glenmore Roundabout to facilitate an examination by Forensic Collision Investigators. Local diversions are in place.
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
Gardaí are also appealing for any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling on the N25 between Luffany Roundabout, Slieverue and Glenmore between the hours of 5:30pm and 6:15pm to make this footage available to Gardaí.
