A man in his 80s has sadly died nearly two weeks after a road collision in Mooncoin, Co Kilkenny.

Martin Delahunty, from Ballytarsney, Mooncoin, passed away on Wednesday, October 2.

The road collision happened on Saturday, September 21, when Gardaí were alerted to the incident at approximately 7.30pm.

The collision involved a motorcycle and a pedestrian on the N24 in the village of Mooncoin.

Martin was taken to the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital for treatment, but has sadly passed on.

He died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family. 

Garda Appeal

An Garda Síochána are appealing for information from anyone who may have witnessed the collision.

According to Gardaí: "Any road users or pedestrians who were in Mooncoin village at the time or travelling through on the N24 between 7:00pm and 8:00pm and have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí."

Martin was predeceased by his parents Laurence and Margaret, brothers William, Paddy, James, John and Dennis, his sister Julia and his sister-in-law Eily. 

He is sadly missed by his sisters Catherine (Kearns) and Margaret (Comerford), his brother Fr Richard Delahunty CSsR, William and Eily’s family, Margaret, Larry, Seamus, Liam and Marty, his many nieces and nephews, extended family, friends and neighbours.

Reposing on Tuesday, October 8, at Donnacha Doyle & Sons Funeral Home, Grannagh, Kilmacow from 4.00pm until 7.00pm, Martin's funeral Mass will take place on Wednesday at The Church of the Assumption, Mooncoin at 11.00am, with burial afterwards in the old Cemetery.
