The organisers of a fundraising charity cycle in County Waterford were delighted at the success of the event.
Waterford and Dungarvan Lion's Club were able to present a cheque for €10,750 to Waterford Hospice as a result of the event.
The East Meets West cycle took place in May and it was open to members of the public regardless of their ability or fitness levels. Participants had an option of starting from Clonea Strand, near Dungarvan, or th SETU Greenway car park in Waterford City.
At the time of the event a spokesperson for the organisers commented to Waterford News & Star: "It’s a simple idea, but a powerful one. Over the years, this event has raised over €100,000 for Waterford Hospice, and every euro collected this year will go straight back into the vital care they provide here in Waterford."
"The beauty of it is, anyone can take part," said the spokesperson.
"Whether you’re seven or 70, on a high-spec road bike or a trusty hybrid with a basket, you’re welcome," she added.
The cheque was presented by Michael Colivet, President of Dungarvan Lion's Club and Martina Harte, President of Waterford Lion's Club.
They handed it over to Barry Kennedy and Nick Donnelly, representing Waterford Hospice, and also in attendance at the presentation ceremony were Grahame Morphey and Paul O'Gorman, both from Dungarvan Lion's Club and Denis Kennedy, from Waterford Lion's Club who organised the race.
