A Dungarvan woman has been sentenced to a year in prison for committing burglary.

Jodie Finnerty (31), of Cathal Brugha Place, Dungarvan, was sentenced to three years, with the final two suspended, at Waterford Circuit Court.

In the early hours of October 2, 2023, Ms Finnerty illegally entered a property at Highfield, Kilrush, Dungarvan.

She was seen on CCTV entering through a latched window, and later exiting the house through the front door.

The resident of the house, who was known to Ms Finnerty, was asleep on the couch during the robbery.

Ms Finnerty took various medications, namely a mixture of prescribed sleep, anti-anxiety and anti-depression pills.

Gardaí positively identified her from CCTV footage and detained her.

She admitted her guilt and apologised for her crime.

The court heard that she has 36 previous convictions and struggled with addiction.
