A man will serve a year in prison for his brutal attack on a woman and criminal damage of a vehicle. 

Andrew Early (age 30), of Cois Abha, Shandon, Dungarvan, struck the victim on her head in an unprovoked attack at a house in Dungarvan. 

After attacking her, he went on to damage a Honda Accord vehicle, which belonged to the victim's partner.

On November 6, 2022, Garda Tommy Ryan was alerted to a report for an ambulance and arrived on the scene. 

It was said in Waterford Circuit Court that earlier on in the evening, Mr Early was attending a house party when he became aggressive and agitated. 

He was asked to leave by the victim and others, and left for a time but soon returned and eventually struck the woman on her head with a stick. 

The victim had to be rushed to A&E for urgent medical treatment. She was unable to eat solid food for over a week and has ongoing pain and psychological trauma due to the attack.

Mr Early caused thousands of euro in damage to the car, which left the owner facing a loss of €6,358.

He was sentenced to three years for the assault, with the final two years suspended, and two years three months for the criminal damage to the car, with the final year and three months suspended. 

He was ordered to pay the victim €5,000 in compensation.
