A popular shop in Waterford City remains closed following an incident involving emergency services last weekend

The News & Star previously reported that the premises of Dealz on Michael Street, Waterford had suffered fire and smoke damage as a result of a blaze on the first floor on Saturday morning, June 22.

A notice has since been placed on the door to say the store has been closed and that the company apologises for any inconvenience.

There was no indication as to when the store may reopen. However, in a statement from a spokesperson for the Waterford City shop, it said: “We had a small electrical issue in a fuse box that has led to the store being temporarily closed.

"The issue is being rectified as a matter of priority and as soon as we’re given the all-clear by ESB, we will be in a position to re-open. We apologise for any inconvenience to customers.”

There was no clarification disclosed to the News & Star if staff continue to be paid while the store is temporarily closed.

No injuries occurred in the incident.
