'Dangerous' speeds in Kilmeaden pressing issue

Kilmeaden, Co Waterford

Cllr Declan Clune has slammed the speed of traffic in Kilmeaden village to a specific area, describing it as a 'funnel'.

He said: "It's like two wide ends coming into one descent, the footpath there just alongside Fan Glas, and the speed of traffic there is quite dangerous.

"If a vehicle went out of control there, if it hopped the curb, there's families that are afraid to use the footpath because of the speed of the traffic."

He proposed engineering measures, such as speed bumps, rumble strips or narrowing the carriageways.

Senior engineer Gabriel Hynes said: "It's our function to set the speed limits and you approve those speed limits, and the enforcement of those speed limits is for Gardaí and driver awareness."
