Councillor proposes Tramore Annual Air Show

Cllr Barry proposed an air show for Tramore.

At a recent meeting Councillor Donal Barry raised the notion of highlighting Tramore as a potential site for an annual air show.

The Independent Councillor pointed to the strategic location of Tramore and the developing Waterford Airport as being key contributary factors for the event.

He said: “I respectfully request that the Council engage with Fáilte Ireland to initiate a feasibility study into the potential for hosting an annual air display over Tramore Bay and Air Show at Waterford Airport.

Cllr Barry referenced the progressing works at newly-invested Waterford Airport. He said: "The imminent extension of the runway at Waterford Airport will significantly enhance the region’s aviation capability, enabling the operation of jet aircraft and a wider range of aviation activity. This development presents a timely and strategic opportunity to consider a high-profile, nationally significant event that could materially strengthen the tourism offering of Tramore and the wider South-East.

He continued: “Each year, large numbers of residents from this region travel to Bray to attend the annual air display. Tramore Bay offers a comparable—and arguably superior—natural amphitheatre, with excellent viewing opportunities along the Promenade, Doneraile, and extending as far as the Guillamene. This distinctive coastal setting has the potential to accommodate a safe, visually compelling, and economically impactful event.”

Senior Executive officer Claire Hartley replied: “It’s a new idea, it hasn’t been proposed before, it hasn’t been proposed by any festivals or event organisers.” She added: “it is certainly is something that I would take to the table with Fáilte Ireland.”
