Councillor Joe Kelly elected as Metropolitan Mayor in Waterford

Councillor Joe Kelly takes his seat as Metropolitan Mayor at the latest Council meeting.
Local Councillor, Joe Kelly, has been elected as the new Metropolitan Mayor of Waterford.
In a meeting this evening at City Hall, returning Councillor Lola O'Sullivan was the first to propose Cllr Kelly, with newly-elected Blaise Hannigan seconding the proposal.
Upon him taking his seat, Mayor Kelly told those present that he is extremely grateful for the support he has received from his politician colleagues, but additionally from his family who were present.
"On behalf of the fine fail party we would like to congratulate you and we look forward to working with you," said Cllr Adam Wyse.
Councillor David Daniels was also put forward for the Mayoral role by Cllr Dónal Barry and seconded by Cllr Mary Roche (who also proposed Cllr Daniels for the Plenary Mayor last week).
Sinn Féin's Pat Fitzgerald was proposed for the position by Cllr Joeanne Bailey and seconded by Cllr John Hearne.
Mayor Kelly won the majority of the votes to take up the role.
"I want to express my thanks to Cllr Power who ran our meetings very fairly," said Mayor Kelly, adding, "It's only right and proper" to acknowledge the work of outgoing Councillors Jody Power and Cristiona Kiely.
Councillor Frank Quinlan will take up the position as Deputy Mayor.
Cllr Quinlan was proposed by Cllr Eamon Quinlan and seconded by Cllr Jim D'Arcy
