Convicted paedophile Bill Kenneally has died in prison
Bill Kenneally
Just over a week after a final report detailing the failings of the state to bring Bill Kenneally, one of Ireland's most notorious paedophiles, to justice was published, Mr Kenneally has died. He was aged 75.
On Tuesday, Minister for Justice Jim O'Callaghan confirmed that a memorandum will go to Cabinet shortly that will commence the formal process of offering an apology to Mr Kenneally's victims, of which there are at least fifteen.
Mr O'Callaghan also apologised to the victims for what he described as the "wholly inadequate" investigation by gardaí into the convicted paedophile
Mr Kenneally died in the Midlands Prison, where he was transferred earlier this month to serve the remainder of his 19-year prison sentence under medical supervision.
He had been in prison for over ten years and was not due to be released until 2030.
His next of kin has been notified.
The cause of death will be determined by the Coronor's Office.
