Concern over rise in antisocial behaviour across Waterford
In the Ireland Liveability Index, published in August of last year, Waterford ranked as the best place to live in Ireland.
Similarly in 2021, Waterford city won the Irish Times best place to live in Ireland contest.
This week, a local representative has said that she hopes Waterford can now become Ireland’s safest place to live.
Cllr Niamh O’Donovan, has expressed concerns over the level of law enforcement and antisocial behaviour across the county.
“Something that is coming up too often now is that residents are quite concerned about the level of law enforcement and antisocial behaviour" she said.
"Waterford is the best place to live, that’s our tagline. I would like to change that tagline and say Waterford is the safest place to live, to work and to raise a family.”
Cllr O’Donovan made renewed calls for a meeting between the Council and An Garda Siochana to discuss the issues.
“We need to know what strategies are in place for community safety and to reduce crime rates overall across our county” she said.
