A company has been appointed to assist in the preparation of a County Outdoor Recreational Plan (CORP) for Waterford.

The news was contained in a report relayed to the members of Waterford City & County Council at their October plenary meeting in City Hall.

In his report, Chief Executive, Sean McKeown, stated that a company called Outscape was appointed to help prepare the plan over the coming months.

He said work had begun on preparing the plan which is expected to be finalized by early in the second quarter of 2025.

Developing the plan is an objective of ‘Embracing Irelan’s Outdoors – the National Outdoor Recreational Strategy’ and involves each county preparing such CORPs. Forming a County Outdoor Recreation Committee also forms part of the strategy objectives.

With regard to the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS), Mr McKeown said the local authority is currently implementing 18 projects around the county, funded under ORIS between 2020 and 2023. He also stated in his report that it’s anticipated a call for ORIS 2024 funding will issue in the coming weeks.
