Met Éireann has added to the low temperature and ice warning in place tonight with an orange weather warning for tomorrow evening and night, Wednesday, January 8.

Another status orange low temperature and ice weather warning has been issued for Waterford for Wednesday night. Met Éireann has forecast temperatures to drop to as low as -5 degrees tonight and temperatures and -3 tomorrow night.

Extremely cold weather with widespread severe frost, ice and lying snow has been forecast for Waterford; the provinces of Munster, Connaught and Leinster; as well as Cavan and Monaghan.

The weather conditions are likely to cause dangerous travelling conditions on roads and underfoot, Met Éireann has warned.

Travel disruption and delays are also expected, and the public has been warned of the risk of animal welfare issues from 6:00pm on Wednesday until 11:00am on Thursday.

There is a standing status yellow low temperature and ice warning for the entire country this week until Friday morning at 6:00am with very cold temperatures expected. During the rest of the week, widespread frost, ice and lying snow are likely with some patches of freezing fog.
