The Clock Tower Plaza is scheduled to open in 2026 Q1, according to Waterford City and County Council Head of Economic Development Michael Quinn.

Mr Quinn’s update came after Social Democrat councillor Mary Roche said construction was creating a dangerous environment for pedestrians. With the footpath closed because of construction works, Cllr. Roche said children were walking on Merchant's Quay in the face of oncoming traffic.

“We had actually hoped it was relatively close to being completed. We had hoped it would be done before Christmas,” said Mr Quinn.

“We need to see people snagging and things like that. Sometime in quarter oneit will be opened as separately from everything else.”

The plaza is designed to feature street furniture, seating, trees and bicycle facilities. Construction was scheduled to finish in late 2025. It will be fenced off from the sustainable transport bridge, which is due to be completed in 2027.
