The Port of Waterford is set to host a ‘Port & Cheese’ Waterford Chamber Business After Hours event.
CEO David Sinnott and the team at Port of Waterford will be welcoming the business community to the Port to showcase Ireland’s oldest continuous-running business, its plans for growth and its position as a key driver in the building of the South East economy into the future.
Guests to the event can enjoy an insight into the Port and a guided tour of the facilities, while they savour some locally made cheeses and also enjoy a selection of food from Shirely’s Park Road Delicatessen.
Speaking ahead of the event, CEO at Port of Waterford David Sinnott said, “At a recent Chamber event I heard Past President Paul Nolan talk about agriculture and it being a €17 billion export business with 9/10 of the benefit being in the local economy.
"There is also a lot of talk about agriculture and sustainability – and specifically in the world of transport emissions, our Port based here in the cornerstone of those rich farmlands of south Leinster and east Munster makes its contribution."
He added, "In 2023, 94% of all the export containers that left the Port of Waterford were from the four counties of the South East - Waterford, Kilkenny, Wexford and Carlow. By using Port of Waterford each business behind these boxes made a 27% carbon saving - a benefit for us all and one that we hope to double in the next couple of years as export container demand from the South East grows and we feel the pressure to install more shipping services to make this happen."
Mr. Sinnott commented that he is looking forward to sharing with the public how Port of Waterford works with local businesses, deliver on carbon emission reduction and recently managed the largest onshore wind cargo in the history of the state.
Members and non-members of Waterford Chamber are welcome to attend the event on June 20, which will take place at Marine Point in Belview Port from 5.30 pm to 7pm.
