Emergency services were deployed to help a camper on the Comeraghs this week after their tent blew away.
On Monday (June 1) at 2:30am, South Eastern Mountain Rescue received a call from An Garda Síochána to assist a camper who got into difficulties when their tent blew away in adverse weather conditions.
The camper was able to navigate down to the Boolas loop on the slopes of the Comeragh Mountains to be met by a SEMRA team member who escorted them to the team vehicles
They were assessed and given some food.
An Garda Síochána members on scene transported the camper to the Garda station for the night to dry off, recharge their phone and arrange transport back home on a bus.
A spokesperson from SEMRA said: “Even though temperatures were warmer this last week, once you are wet and without shelter hypothermia is a real risk and it was a pretty miserable night on the hill so they did the right thing to call for help. Sometimes, no matter how well prepared you are things just go wrong and that’s why we are here.”
