Calls made to construct outdoor tidal pool in Tramore

Calls are being made to secure funding for the construction of a tidal pool in Tramore.

Constructed tidal pools are built along coastal shorelines. They fill with seawater at high tide and allow for safe sea swimming conditions all year round.

A newly established group of local volunteers are spearheading the project for Tramore.

The group are attempting to secure feasibility funding to assess the project.

During yesterday’s Plenary meeting of Waterford Council, Metropolitan Mayor Lola O’Sullivan further advanced the calls.

Cllr O’Sullivan asked that the Council put aside funding to complete a study for a pool in Tramore.

“I think it would be very beneficial to Waterford. We don’t have an outdoor tidal pool, and I think it would be super if we could consider it.”

 In response to the councillor’s comments, Waterford Council Director of Services Ivan Grimes that it is something that can be looked at.

“I will be speaking with Swim Ireland tomorrow about other swimming pool options across Waterford, so I can raise this issue also" he said.
