West Waterford councillor Donnchadh Mulcahy has renewed his call for a long-overdue bus shelter in Cappoquin.

Cllr Mulcahy said the lack of basic facilities for passengers is “completely unacceptable” and he has been in contact with Active Travel and the relevant departments on several occasions about the issue, but has yet to receive any confirmation or time frame for delivery.

“The Cappoquin stop on the Tallow to Dungarvan Local Link route is used every single day by people going to work, school and appointments,” he said.

“It is one of the busiest routes in the country, yet passengers are being left standing in the open, often getting drenched before their day even begins. It is disheartening to see such a vital service without even a simple shelter,” said Cllr Mulcahy.

The councillor said a bus shelter would have strong backing from the local community.

He said lack of transport infrastructure was a problem across Waterford.

“The people of Cappoquin are crying out for this. It is a small ask that would make a big difference. I have raised the matter repeatedly and will continue to push for progress until something is done.

“I am more than willing to work with Active Travel and Local Link to get this over the line, whatever it takes.

“If we want people to use public transport and reduce car dependency, then we need to make it practical and comfortable, not leave people soaking wet at the side of the road,” said Cllr Mulcahy.
