Waterford Airport was very busy in recent days with some vintage flying activity taking place there.

On Thursday, a Swiss registered DC3, from 1943 with WWII heritage, arrived at the airport.

At the same time as that aircraft was there another charter plane - OY-FSB Saab 2000 aircraft - arrived with the rock band Fontaines DC on board as they arrived into Waterford ahead of their performance at the All Together Now festival.

The arrival of those aircraft also coincided with some medivac activity involving the Irish Coastguard search and rescue helicopter which is based at the airport.

It was all indicative of the diverse aviation activity that takes place at the airport.

The DC3 aircraft was built in 1943, at the Doulgas Factory in Long Beach, California, and was delivered to the US Army that same year.

After World War II, it was fitted with panoramic windows and entered civilian usage.

From 2004 to 2006 the aircraft was operated commercially with Ju-Air in Switzerland and two years later, in 2008, was purchased by a Swiss entrepreneur.

By 2010 it received the civil registration N431HM, was resprayed in Swiss colours and became the flagship of the classic formation historic flying team with three Beech 18s in aerial displays across Europe.
