Local Collette Griffin spoke ahead of the celebrations, saying: “I had the pleasure of doing Bridie's makeup today for her retirement party this evening. If you don't know Bridie she is a care assistant on the maternity ward at Waterford Regional Hospital.

“Bridie was sent from heaven, I don't care what anyone says, she took such good care of me when I was in hospital after having the twins.

"With no family or friends around me for support she took the role of my mother and sister and partner. I'm sure Bridie has been that person for so many new mammies throughout the years.

“Wishing you all the best in your retirement Bridie. Lots of love from all the Waterford Mammies. Hope you have the best night.”
