Breakthrough made in campaign for theatre in Tramore

James Power and Garret Wyse are the driving force beind the campaign for a new theatre in Tramore

Significant progress has been made in the long-running campaign to establish a theatre venue in Tramore, representatives behind the project revealed this week.

Currently, Tramore has no dedicated community theatre or arts space.

Waterford City and County Council's plans to develop a theatre are progressing significantly, the Waterford News & Star was informed this week.

A feasibility study is complete and is now in the hands of Senior Council Executives.

Several possible sites for the theatre have been located.

The project is being driven Waterford City and County Council, alongside the Tramore Area Community Theatre (TACT) group, and its founders James Power and Garrett Wyse.

James and Garrett spoke about the progress this week, saying:

“We would like to thank Waterford County Council for their drive and ambition for this project”

The pair said that “Tramore will be all the richer", should the venue be established.

The journey so far

Tramore Area Community Theatre was established by a group of very interested, experienced and professional locals from the local community.

The group was instrumental in arranging a feasibility study two years ago, which would look into the possibility of establishing a community theatre for the Tramore area.

Up to fourteen potential sites were identified.

Business modelling, cash flow analysis and a public survey were also carried out.

The study was subsequently extended when it was realised very quickly that the town of Tramore was badly lacking in social, community, sports and cultural infrastructure, including facilities and services.

The study is now complete and will soon be presented to the Tramore Town Centre Management Group (TTCMG), and then adopted and recommended to the full Plenary Council for their backing and support.

Further progress and announcements are expected in due course.
