Gardaí and emergency services were alerted to a report of a car entering the River Blackwater, Cappoquin, Co. Waterford yesterday evening (Sunday May 3rd).

A search of the water was conducted on Sunday evening.

The search by Gardaí assisted by Fire Brigade and Fermoy Sub Aqua unit resumed again this morning, Monday May 4, and the body of a man, aged in his 20s was recovered from the water.

The body has since been removed to University Hospital Waterford and the Coroner has been notified. A post mortem will take place which will determine the course of the investigation.

Investigations are ongoing.
