Big difference in the number of civil ceremonies in Waterford City and County

There was a huge difference between the number of civil marriage ceremonies in Waterford City and County last year.

According to new figures released by the Central Statistics Office, there were 140 civil marriages in Waterford City in 2024 and just 20 in the county.

The Marriage 2024 dataset broke down the number of marriages by city and county.

According to the dataset, there were 511 marriage ceremonies in Waterford in 2024.

Of those 256 ceremonies were in Waterford City and 255 in the county.

Roman Catholic ceremonies accounted for the highest number in the county at 119 and civil marriages in the city.

There were no Presbyterian ceremonies in either the city or county and just one Church of Ireland ceremony in each of the city and county.

There were 16 Humanist ceremonies in Waterford county and 12 in the city.

Spiritualist ceremonies came in at 19 ceremonies in the city and 14 in the county.

Other religions accounted for 80 ceremonies in the county and 60 in the city.

Nationwide, there were 19,680 ceremonies in 2024, which means Waterford accounted for just over 2.5% of all new marriages in Ireland.
