A mayoral reception was hosted in City Hall this week in recognition of Bríd Kenneally’s thirty years of dedicated teaching at Waterpark College and for her outstanding service to the arts community in Waterford.

Bríd has taught thousands of students in her career, with many going on to win prominent national art awards. Bríd is now retiring to become a full time artist.

Mayor of Waterford Cllr Jason Murphy was joined by Cllr Damien Geoghegan at the reception.

Mayor Jason Murphy, in commending Bríd for her years of invaluable service, said:

“She has devoted thirty years of her life as a teacher of art, enjoying much success with her students and greatly benefitting the whole school community. Her work in oils and acrylics has been prolific and her energy and commitment to her subjects is to be admired.

Bríd paid tribute to teachers, fellow artists and students of Waterpark during the reception, many of which were present at City Hall.

“I feel honored” she said.

“It was fantastic for students to relax for their wellbeing. I think in this day and age, when everybody is bombarded with so much technology, it is important that students get their downtime so that they are able to engage in something creative, something imaginative something that they can do individually. I think it’s really, really important.

“Thank you very much, you’re all very special to me. It means so much to be and I’m very humbled.”

Wishing Bríd the best on her next venture, Cllr Damien Geoghegan said: “You’re going to become a full time artist now, and I’m really looking forward to what you produce. You have a unique style which people absolutely adore and you capture some of the most memorable places in Waterford."
