Arrest made as part of investigation into allegations of corruption in office
The investigation is being led by specialist detectives from the Anti-Bribery & Corruption Unit at the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau
Detectives attached to the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau have arrested a man on suspicion of bribing a public official.
According to a spokesperson for the Gardaí, the male, who is in his 40s, was arrested on Monday, June 29.
"The male is currently detained for questioning in a Garda Station in the Southern Region under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 as amended," said the spokesperson.
The investigation relates to alleged corruption in office involving a former local authority employee and external contractors.
The investigation is being led by specialist detectives from the Anti-Bribery & Corruption Unit at the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau assisted by Divisional resources in the Southern Region.
This investigation is ongoing.
