Apartments and community centre planned for Kilmacthomas

The existing premises in Kilmacthomas village where new apartments are being planned.

Two separate developments are currently proposed for the Kilmacthomas area, including an apartment complex and new sports hub.

The development of five one-bedroom apartments is planned for at a premises on Main Street and St Anne’s Terrace in Kilmacthomas, Co. Waterford.

A planning application was submitted last week by Abbeyside Developments Ltd.

The submission outlines that in order to facilitate the apartments, the site must undergo a change of use from retail to residential.

The existing retail unit will then be renovated to facilitate the five apartments, including renovation to the existing facade, along with a waste management area, bicycle storage area, reconnection to the public sewer and all drainage and ancillary works.

The building is located in an architectural conservation area.

Meanwhile, the construction of a local community centre and sports hub is planned for Newtown, Kilmacthomas.

The planning application was submitted this week by James Dunphy (Chairman) on behalf of Newtown/Ballydurn GAA Club.

Planned is the construction of a community centre and sports hub that will include an open-plan multi-purpose function room, kitchenette, store, gym and viewing gallery overlooking the pitch.

Construction of a new ball wall with perimeter fencing with an all-weather Astroturf infill associated area is also proposed, as is associated flood lighting, together with all ancillary and associated site works.

Alterations to the bathroom facilities of the existing clubhouse building and construction of a communal entrance linking the existing and proposed buildings are also part of the plans.

Reconfiguration of the existing car park layout is also planned, as is the development of an overspill car park to be accessed by a pedestrian walkway from the existing car park.
