The members of one very active retirement group in Waterford gathered recently for an informative and interesting talk on healthy, age-friendly homes.

The event, organised by the Tay & Mahon Valley Active Retirement Group, took place in Barron Hall.

Among those in attendance was Kevin Moynihan, from Age Friendly Ireland and Roinn Sláinte, who gave an excellent presentation on the aforementioned topic of healthy, age-friendly homes.

A spokesperson for the group, who was in attendance at the event, said an important part of the presentation was a focus on supporting older people to live in their own home with dignity and independence for as long as possible.

"For those interested your local (Age Friendly Ireland) coordinator will carry out a free home visit, help develop and manage a support package for you," said the spokesperson.

"Information can be provided on available grants and they can link you to supports in your area," he said.

Recalling memories of times gone by he also recalled, around 1950, when electricity first came to homes and houses in his area.

The next meeting of the group will take place on June 8, at which details will be revealed of the organisation's next day trip.

The meeting will take place on Jun 8, from 2pm to 4pm.

New members are always welcome to join.

"You're more than welcome to join us but in the meantime, keep warm and dry, stay safe, and keep in touch," he said.
