West Waterford councillor Donnchadh Mulcahy has strongly condemned an incident that left two newly installed public toilets in Lismore “broken to pieces”.

The toilets had only just been replaced following public representations and councillors' calls last year.

Cllr Mulcahy said renovations of the facilities were almost complete, which he described as “extremely disheartening”.

“These are public facilities for the people of Lismore and for visitors to the town, and a lot of time, effort and public money has gone into improving them,” he said.

“Lismore is a town people are proud of, and the vast majority take great care in how it is presented.

"Facilities like this are there for everyone, and it is important that we all play our part in looking after them,” he added.

“If you have any information, please contact the Gardaí.

"We cannot allow this sort of behaviour to become the norm in our community,” said Cllr. Mulcahy.
