During An Garda Siochana's Road Safety Day of Action in Tramore and Dungarvan today, two suspected drink drivers were arrested.

A number of cars were also seized for no NCT and no insurance. 

"Fixed charge notices issued for various road traffic offences" a spokesperson said.

A Garda Roads Policing Operation has been taking place nationally throughout the May Bank Holiday Weekend, and every member of An Garda Síochána on-duty over the long weekend was conducting road traffic enforcement activity. Gardaí were placing a particular emphasis on detecting those driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

During the four days of the operation, which took place from Thursday April 30 to Monday May 4, there was 2 fatalities as a result of traffic collisions on Irish roads.

In excess of 2,400 drivers were detected for speeding offences nationally during the initial four days of the operation. Also during this period, in excess of 240 drivers were detected for holding a mobile phone or not wearing a seatbelt.
