A Garda Youth Award was handed to Waterford local Paul Lee last week, in recognition of his dedication and commitment to helping those in the locality.

Despite the many challenges he faces, he has been an instrumental figure within the community.

Paul, who lives with autism, has struggled socially his entire life and also manages high anxiety levels. Following an accident in 2023, his mental health was further impacted.

What has helped him enormously however, is helping out in his local community. His efforts have not just helped him, but have transformed his estate.

Paul selflessly gives up his time to make his community a better place to live in, a gesture which is fully appreciated by the entire community who recognise how brave he is to do what he does after all he has gone through and continues to go through.

During the presentation of the award at the Tower Hotel last week, Paul was described as “a hero” and “an inspiration to all of us”.
