A bus 'cannot be beyond the wit of man or woman,' says Waterford District Mayor

Mayor Joe Kelly has said he does not understand the issue of providing a bus to Ferrybank when the Sustainable Transport Bridge opens.
Councillors asked Senior Engineer Michael Murphy, at the February sitting of the Metropolitan District Council, if the issue had been raised with the developer.
“It cannot be beyond the wit of man or woman to figure that one out," said Cllr Kelly. "Sending people down along to Ferrybank so you can send people down a packed bridge and up along a packed quay, when we have a brand new bridge that you simply cross, from that point of view it makes perfect sense."
The issue was first raised by Cllr Seamus Ryan, who said it was his understanding from the last meeting that the council would speak with the developer to “get it back on the agenda.”
“I think it is a very important piece of infrastructure for our city, and I think it is something worth pursuing,” said Cllr Ryan.
Senior Engineer Michael Murphy said the focus over the last few months had been submitting further information.
However, now that has been received there is an opportunity to speak with the developer.
“As I keep referencing, I don’t hold out a lot of hope in relation to it, but I’m quite happy to pursue it with them and see what their thoughts are on it,” said Mr Murphy.
