582 student beds get approved

Planning permission has been granted for the construction of 582 students beds in Waterford.
Permission has been granted for a large-scale residential development consisting of student accommodation near SETU at Kilbarry on the Cork Road, Waterford.
The planning application was submitted by Noel Frisby Construction Ltd in February.
The development will involve the construction of 85 student accommodation apartments ranging in size from five-bed apartments to eight-bed apartments.
These apartments comprise a total of 582 bed spaces across four blocks ranging in height from four to six storeys.
A number of student amenities are also approved at the site. These include one retail/ cafe unit, a number of communal areas, laundry room, reception, student and staff facilities and a storage area. Additionally approved as part of the application is a new central courtyard space, public realm/ plaza, which fronts on to the Cork Road and a set down area.
A number of infrastructural changes will also take place, including the addition of a new vehicular access point onto Ballybeg Drive. The development also includes new car and bicycle parking, footpaths, signage, pedestrian and cycle improvements to Lacken Road, which includes a pedestrian crossing, and additional pedestrian/ cyclist facilities.
Permission was granted this week with a total of 27 conditions.
