Kilkenny County Council has erected additional signs to act "as a reminder" of the new speed limit changes with the rural speed limit sign to be present on some roads to avoid giving drivers a "target" speed.

The changes will come into force on Friday

The changes aim to improve road safety and reduce road deaths and serious injuries by 50 per cent by the end of the decade

If you are caught driving over the speed limit, you will get three penalty points and a fixed charge fine of €160.

New speed limits for local roads in Waterford are set to come into effect in February.

Speed limits will be reduced from 80km/h to 60km/h across the country in the new year.

81 people have died on Irish roads in 2024, the highest number recorded by this time of year in over a decade.
