Planning permission has been sought by an interested party for a campervan site

Campervan Site

Kilkenny County Council has received a planning application from Mr. Shane Kavanagh for the proposed development of camper van site at Prospect House, Gyles Quay, within the grounds of a protected structure. The proposed development includes the creation of 10 dedicated campervan parking bays and the renovation of an existing derelict outbuilding. The refurbished structure will provide essential campsite facilities, including toilets, shower blocks, and a wastewater treatment system, along with various ancillary site works to support the development. The project aims to enhance local tourism infrastructure while preserving the historical integrity of the protected site. The application is currently under review by the planning authorities.

Sympathies

The death occurred of Patrick Foran, formerly of Abbey Lawn, Ferrybank, and Carrickphilip, Ballyduff, on Sunday, April 27. Pat was formerly associated with University Hospital Waterford, the Referees Society, and Ballyduff Soccer Club. He was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Peggy, his brother Christy, and his sister Mary. He is deeply missed by his wife Mary, daughter Jennifer (Jenny) Callaghan, son-in-law Jim, grandchildren Laura, Emma, and James, as well as the Foran and Hanrahan families, nephews, nieces, extended family, neighbours, and friends. Reposing took place at his residence on Tuesday, with Requiem Mass on Wednesday in St Nicholas Church, Ballyduff, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Clean Up In Abbeylands

Young volunteers from the PACT Project in Abbeylands, Ferrybank, have earned praise for transforming the area around the community buildings and Nos. 1 & 2 Abbeylands. With great enthusiasm and teamwork, they cleared overgrown bushes, removed weeds, tidied planters, and prepared the space for new planting. Their efforts not only improved the site but will also support Ferrybank’s Tidy Towns entry. The project has drawn admiration from local residents and groups. “Their pride in the community is clear for all to see,” said a spokesperson. Well done to all involved – your work is truly appreciated. The PACT Project is a community-based youth initiative focused on Personal and Community Development. While the acronym 'PACT' can vary by organization or region, it often stands for something like: Personal, Action, Community, Teamwork.

Proud Moment

Bríd Golden (nee: Hallissey) of Ferrybank Athletics Club has been elected as the new President of Athletics Ireland. Bríd Golden, daughter of Pearl and the late Andy Hallissey, who passed away in February 2023, will take up the role, having previously served as Vice-President, and takes over from John Cronin, whose four-year tenure concludes. Bríd, from a young age, has invested so much into the sport of Athletics, through her SHM School, and the local club, has been Chairperson of the Coaching and Development Committee since 2018, and was Chairperson of the High-Performance Committee for four years prior to this. Bríd has represented Ireland at juvenile, junior, and senior levels and received great encouragement from her family in Rockenham.

Clothes Recycling

Ferrybank GAA club is continuing to accept clothes for recycling, in an ongoing effort to raise funds for the club. This is an ideal way to clear out your winter wardrobe and get ready for the spring/summer days ahead. Clothes can be left at the car park in the Ferrybank GAA grounds in Abbeylands between 10am and 11am every Saturday and Sunday morning.
