Local Notes: 80th birthday, running club news and a very special visitor

Golfer and past pupil, Seamus Power with some of the Touraneena National School pupils
Many congratulations to Jim McGrath, Ballinagulkee, Ballinamult, who recently celebrated his 80th birthday. We take this opportunity to wish Jim many more years of great health and happiness. Happy birthday Jim.
There was a great turnout for the Colm Ryan Memorial Run/Walk held recently in memory of our late club member and dear friend Colm Ryan. Everybody worked together to provide an array of refreshments and lovely confectionary after the walk and there was also great spot prizes on the day. We would like to sincerely thank everybody who participated on the day and those who helped in any way to make this a great event in Colm’s memory. Thank you also to Condon Dairy Services who kindly sponsored Colm’s memorial run.

The Morrissey family and friends of Cian Morrissey in the Waterford/ South Tipperary area have come together to organise a Tractor, Truck, Car Run and family fun day on Sunday, November 3.
The proceeds from the event, which will be held in Ballymacarbry Community Centre, will go towards the Oak Ward at University Hospital Waterford. Cian’s love of machinery was from a young age and his days were spent driving all sorts of tractors and machinery from big to small right across the world, from at home in Knockacoola all the way to New Zealand. Along the way Cian made many friends and we see it fitting that this event will be a gathering of all Cian’s colleagues and many friends far and wide.

Cian lost his battle after an 18 month fight against cancer and the Morrissey family are grateful to the doctors, nurses and all those that looked after Cian during his illness. Cian’s last weeks were spent in the Oak Ward in University Hospital Waterford and we can never repay the kindness, care and attention shown to Cian, to our family and friends during this time, nothing was too much trouble for the staff of the Oak Ward. In appreciation of this, we are holding this fundraiser to ensure that other families and friends experience the care and support when their loved ones are under the palliative care team at the Oak Ward.
We would be grateful if your business or company is in a position to provide sponsorship of costs, a spot prize for the raffle or item for our auction on the day or make a donation to this event. All monies raised are going to the Oak Ward. Thank you in advance for your help and generosity. It will be sincerely appreciated by the Morrissey family.
There was great excitement last week when golfer and Sliabh gCua native, Seamus Power visited Touraneena Nnational School. Past pupil Seamus congratulated the whole school on their efforts in Ireland’s Fittest School Competition and was exceptionally proud that his past school had been granted the title and honour of ‘Ireland’s Fittest School 2024’.

Seamus was also on hand to answer many of the children’s questions on golf and provided tips for the aspiring young golfers in attendance. A big thank you to Seamus for taking time out of his busy schedule and we look forward to seeing you again.
