Large gorse fire re-ignited in the Dublin Mountains

A large gorse fire has re-ignited around Glencullen in the Dublin Mountains on Monday.

Firefighters from Rathfarnham and Dún Laoghaire are attending the wildfire, and smoke is travelling over Three Rock into South Dublin.

Dublin Fire Brigade is advising residents affected by smoke to “close all windows and doors as a precaution”. It is not known how this fire started again.

More than 25 firefighters along with the Irish Air Corps and Executive Helicopters, had fought a blaze in the area last Friday, which was eventually brought under control.

In a statement tonight (Monday) Dublin Fire Brigade said that smoke is travelling from the south over Three Rock Mountain into the suburbs of the city.

Last week’s fire came dangerously close to several homes and local businesses. It is the third time in two weeks that a wildfire has erupted in Glencullen.

There have been large wildfires in Tipperary, Kilkenny, Carlow Kerry and Wicklow over the past several weeks.
