Local Notes: Tractor run, Stradbally market and Comeragh clean-up

Carnlough Vintage road run Tractor Show in Glenarm
Stradbally Tidy Towns Committee is delighted to have launched a GoFundMe fundraising campaign on behalf of the community to support the installation of a memorial bench in honour of our late Parish Priest Fr. Jerry Condon.
Having received permission from Waterford City & County Council, through our Area Engineer Maria Goff, we plan to install the limestone bench in the village green - an area where Fr. Condon spent many a morning having tea with the boys at the table in the sun.
We hope the bench will reflect the great fondness of the community for Fr Jerry and a fitting memorial of his years spent in Stradbally. We thank those who have responded so generously already and if you wish to make a donation the links are on our Facebook page.
If you are not internet inclined, you can place your donation in an envelope with your name and address and drop it into our finance officer, Tessie Begley, Chapel Road, Stradbally. For further information please contact 087 1417579.
The Parish Draw had been deferred for one week and will now begin on March 18. This is to facilitate having all cards and cash back in time and recorded before the first draw. The draw costs €20 for 12 weeks and is being run to promote parish development and maintenance. There are still a few cards to be filled before the weekend. There is one in the village shop if you wish to enter, or you can enter at any of the churches.
Our friends in the Comeragh Development Group tell us that their 27th annual ‘Clean Up The Comeraghs’ event takes place on Easter Monday, April 1.
There are two options available for volunteers this year: 1 - Clean up your own area in advance of Easter Monday and 2 - Go out on Easter Monday when bags, gloves, litter picks and high viz vests will be distributed outside Veale's Supermarket in Leamybrien at 10am.
If you opt to clean up in advance of Easter Monday, bags gloves, litter picks and high viz vests can be picked up from any member of the Comeragh Community Group. Arrangements are also in place to pick up whatever is collected in advance of Easter Monday. Organisers also need to be informed of areas cleaned in advance of the big clean up.
This initiative is supported by all the local areas including Stradbally who are near neighbours as the crow flies.
The Penitential Service for all three churches in the parish of Stradbally will take place at St Anne's Church, Ballylaneen, on Wednesday, March 20, at 7pm.
Our Lady of Mercy NS Parents Association’s Vintage Car, Bike and Tractor Run will take place in Stradbally on Easter Monday, April 1, at 12 noon.
The cost will be €20 per vehicle with registration from 11am. Drivers have to be 16 years and over.
The Stradbally Market takes place at the Cove Bar at 10am each Saturday morning, at the village square. The local producers provide a great range of fresh produce including fruit, vegetables, eggs, jams, marmalade, relish, brown bread, scones, tarts, fancy buns, cards for occasions, prints, scented candles and kindling for your fire. When you finish shopping you can enjoy tea or coffee with fresh scones. All products for sale can be preordered by calling Margaret on 087 6337215.
