Local Notes: Tidy towns break-in, congratulations and Stradbally Market

It has been a roller-coaster week, from the highs of the dedication of the memorial bench followed by our Tidy towns shed being broken into and all our equipment stolen.
The equipment included two lawnmowers, a long pole hedge trimmer, an ordinary hedgecutter, a new strimmer, an industrial leaf blower. Our committee was devastated to have this happen right in the middle of Tidy Towns judging.
We are 42 years in existence and have never had anything stolen in that time till now. We have been overwhelmed with generous offers as our community has rallied around us with loans of equipment, for which we are grateful for, but unfortunately we have to refuse because of insurance issues.
We thank our local XL Store owner Robert Goff for placing a donation bucket in his shop to start the ball rolling. We are extremely thankful to FDC Accountants Dungarvan, for purchasing a new push mower for us to get us back on track again. We have had offers of support from Dungarvan and Bonmahon Tidy towns which we also appreciate. We had a couple of anonymous donations for which we thank the doners. We meet this coming Tuesday to assess our situation and work on replacing our damaged shed with something stronger.
The Gardai in Tramore are looking after our case and we would appeal that if anyone saw anything between Friday, afternoon July 19 and Monday morning, July 22, in the vicinity of the Ball Alley where our shed is positioned to please let the Gardai in Tramore know. We would like to thank our community and everyone that has offered us support this week, we really appreciate your kind offers.
To the organising committee and volunteers involved in the recent bi-centenary celebrations in Ballylaneen. The weather was kind and everything went like clockwork. Well done to Aidan Coffey on producing and launching the souvenir hardback book commemorating the bi-centenary. This book is a must have for anyone interested in local history. Well done to all.
There are times we should appreciate those who rise at 6am to bake those lovely brown and soda cakes of bread , tarts, scones, and fancy buns and bring them straight from the oven to the market each Saturday morning for 10am at the Cove Bar.
We take for granted the choice of new potatoes, carrots, cabbage, turnip, salads, fresh eggs, seasonal fruit that we have to choose from and jams, marmalade and relish. You can preorder by calling Margaret on 087 6337215, From this week you can order a copy of the photos taken last Sunday at the memorial bench dedication from Colette at the market. Richard will have the kettle on the boil where you can have tea, coffee and fresh scones after you shop. Do drop in any Saturday.
