Local Notes: Tidy towns, bicentenary celebrations and jungle athletics

There are a lot of events happening in the Stradbally area in the coming weeks
A huge thanks to all who supported the recent Sunflower Days events in Stradbally.
Thank you to those who donated so generously including the musicians, singers and entertainers and also to Richard at the Cove Bar, for the use of his premises for the Trad night and raffle that was so enjoyable.
Thanks to the local volunteers who gave of their time to organise the event. Thank you Stradbally for the amazing amount of €2,215 raised over two days. All funds raised will stay locally and help to sustain the services of the Palliative Care Unit in Waterford.
Work is ongoing with the painting of St Anne's Church, Ballylaneen and the restoration of some of the stained glass windows. The painting of the community centre will commence shortly as well.
The outline for the celebratory events, which will take place over the weekend of July 26 to 28, will include Mass at 7pm in the church on Friday, July 26. In attendance will be Cardinal Brady, Bishop Alphonsus Cullinan, and clergy who serve or did serve in the church past and present. The Mass will be followed by refreshments and local entertainment in the community centre.
On Saturday, July 27, Rosary will be recited at the Old Graveyard [and] St Anne's Well at 5pm. The following day, Sunday, July 28, will see a field day take place in Dunphy's Field at 2pm. This will consist of a fun day for kids, with fancy dress, kids races BBQ and side shows along with much more. Everyone is welcome and invited to come along.
Thanks to Tom Whelan, local overseer, WCC and Ray D'Arcy hedgecutting contractor, for improving the sightlines at the Five Crosses, Stradbally, and making it so much safer for all road users, following a request from our Stradbally Tidy Towns Committee.
Jungle Athletics Stradbally will hold a Teens Water Safety Camp, at Clonea Beach from June 24 to 28. The camp will be held from 10.30am to 12.30pm and will be aimed at those aged between 12 and 16 years. However, spaces are limited.
