Bereavement 

The death has sadly occurred on Wednesday, January 14 2026, of Mrs Nuala Sherman, nee Fitzgerald, Williamstown, Waterford, Late Proprietor of Peaches Beauty Salon, Ballybricken, Waterford: Predeceased by her loving mother Mary, father Doc, sisters Gemma, Alva and Marie. 

She is survived by her loving husband Tim and adored mother of Mark, Annmarie, David and Clare. brothers Tony and Tom, grandchildren Cian, Colm, Rory and Finn, sons-in-law Colin and Nin, daughters-in-law Genevieve and Maria, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, extended family, neighbours and her wide circle of friends. 

Nuala will be sadly missed by all her relatives, extended family, neighbours and wide circle of friends. 

Requiem Mass took place in St. Mary’s Church, Ballygunner, Waterford, on Monday, January 19 2026, at 12pm, followed by Private Cremation.

Condolences are extended to Nuala's family, relatives and friends. 

May she rest in peace.

Bereavement 

The death has sadly occurred on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, of Mr David Bate, Grosvenor Terrace, John’s Hill, Waterford and recently of St. Joseph’s Nursing Home. 

Predeceased by his loving wife Phyllis, sister-in-law Dolly and brother-in-law Willie. 

He is survived by his loving daughters Vivienne and Pauline, devoted grandfather to Mark, Gary and David. sons-in-law Liam and Pat, sister-in-law Violet, niece June, nephew John and a large circle of friends.

David will be sadly missed by all his relatives, extended family and large circle of friends. 

Funeral Service took place in Christ Church Cathedral, Waterford, on Saturday, January 24, at 1pm, followed by burial in John’s Hill Cemetery. 

Condolences are extended to David's family, relatives and friends. 

May he rest in peace.

St. Joseph & Benildus Church Parish Faith Rep Applications

Hi everyone, the B Corridor Group is hosting this free talk by Mick Kelly, CEO of GIY, on Wednesday, January 28 at 7pm in St Benildus Parish Centre, Newtown. 

Mick will be discussing ways to support biodiversity, organic growing and the seasonality of food. 

There will be time for Q&A and we'll have a free raffle of their lovely organic veg boxes.

The Solas Men’s Hub 

The Solas Men’s Hub is a new monthly activity-based group for men living with a cancer diagnosis. 

Join a group of men who understand what you’re going through. Our group offers connection and support through shared activities. 

Gentle group activities once a month - gentle sporting activities, games, visits to places of interest. Peer support from men who’ve been there. Relaxed, friendly meet-ups.

Weekly Dance Fitness Class 

Put on your comfy shoes and come join us for a fun, feel-good dance fitness class every Thursday from 7:00pm–8:00pm at the Solas Cancer Support Centre. 

We kick things off on Thursday, January 15 and will be dancing together for six weeks — no experience needed, just come as you are and enjoy moving to the music! 

This class is open to female clients of Solas with a cancer diagnosis.

Well Festival of Arts and Wellbeing 2026 

Well Festival of Arts and Wellbeing 2026 invite readers to share their favourite feel-good poetry and prose. 

Do you reach for a poem to be inspired? Does a good book lift your spirits? 

If yes, then the Well Festival of Arts and Wellbeing 2026 would love to hear from you! 

The festival is calling on literature lovers to submit their favourite piece of writing (not self-written) for consideration for Sunshine: sharing writings to brighten our souls, the ever-popular event to celebrate the joy of reading. 

The Book Centre, Waterford, on Friday, February 20, 2026.

Successful applicants will be invited to share their selections with the public at this uplifting evening of readings and music.

Play Pack Loan Schemes

Play Pack Loan Schemes are available now in Ardkeen Library and Central Library. 

The scheme was designed to foster creativity, learning and fun for families and children within the community. 

The carefully curated Play Packs contain a variety of engaging toys, games and sporting equipment suitable for children of various ages. 

From toys and building blocks to puzzles and imaginative play sets, these packs are designed to spark curiosity and encourage active and imaginative play.

Our third Beat the Billy Goat 10k and 5k Run and 5km family walk 

Our third Beat the Billy Goat 10k and 5k Run and 5km family walk takes place on Sunday, February 222026 Online registration closes at 8pm on Saturday, February 21. 

Start times on Sunday, 22 of February: Family 5km walk 9.30am, 10km run 10am, 5km run 10.05am.

All participants are to meet at the Passage Hurling Clubhouse before start times for final instructions after registration. 

Registration will open at the Community Centre in Passage East from 8am until 9.40am on Sunday morning, February 22, where cash and card payments will be available for registration.

A courtesy shuttle bus is once again running from the Community Centre on the morning after you have registered – it will bring you to the start line at our Clubhouse in Crooke. 

The bus will be running every 10 mins, starting at 8.10am until 9.50am. 

Refreshments immediately after in the Community Centre. 10K & 5K chipped & timed runs!

Prizes to be won in both races: first, second and third Men’s Race 10km/5km first, second and third Women’s Race 10km/5km first Passage Hurler home 10k/5km.
