A busy and creative time for our young people.
Fantastic finish to our Women in Sport Programme last Friday at Kingfisher.
We had a consistently strong turnout over the past number of weeks, and the final session was no different – great atmosphere, great matches, and a real buzz around the hall all evening.
Running alongside our open play and structured training sessions, we were able to cater for everyone – those who just want to have a hit and enjoy the social side, and those looking to train hard and improve.
That balance across all levels is something we’re really proud of.
With everything happening at once, it made for a busy, energetic, and brilliant night of table tennis.
A big positive is the capacity of the hall, which allows us to run multiple sessions side by side while keeping a great flow throughout.
We’re hoping to see many of the women who took part continue on with us as regular members.
The goal is simple: stay active, stay involved, and enjoy the game in a welcoming and inclusive environment.

The young people raised the funds themselves by collecting bottles and recycling them for cash and were helped by their friends in St. Francis’s Court.

Great credit is due to these young people who worked so hard to earn the money to help support our Jubilee Clock.
They have told me it is their way of thanking Fr. Pat and the Parish Community, who have shared the Scout Hall with them, which is used for all their activities.

Some interesting facts.

Twenty-five percent of the population is 85 and over, while overall health is good – one in five has a disability.
Feminine employment rose by 70% - women are lower paid than men.
Despite the rise in building homes, one in three adults ages 20-34 still lives at home with their parents.
Life expectancy and fertility are the highest in the E.U.
One million now work from home. Over one million have a third-level qualification.

“This clock will stand as a witness to the hours we’ve shared, the laughter, the labour, and the legacy of fifty years”.
After months of planning and fundraising, you will have noticed that things are moving ahead at a pace with The Jubilee Clock.
Serious foundation works have been underway in the past couple of weeks, including transplanting of trees, removal of top soil (about fifteen loads), excavation and pouring of concrete base, preparation for new paving, and electrical supply.
Work on the clock itself is well advanced. Every detail is receiving great attention and the project should be largely complete by the end of April.
Our fundraising is ongoing, and we are grateful for so much generous support.
We continue to reach out to the wider community, to those who wish to be associated with this unique landmark. Every contribution is appreciated, great or small.
We promised at the beginning of this process that the financial burden of this project would not fall on the parish. We are holding to this commitment.
If you would like to donate to our GoFundMe Page, please scan the QR Code, which is around the Church and which is also on our website – https://stpaulsbutlerstown.ie.
Please bring this to the attention of your nearest and dearest at home or away.

Waterford Libraries were delighted to welcome the Mayor of Waterford City and County, Seamus Ryan, to Central Library Waterford to officially launch the new Radon monitor Loan Scheme in Waterford Libraries.
This scheme will enable members of the public to borrow digital radon monitors to check radon levels in their homes.
Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that can accumulate indoors.
It is the second leading cause of lung cancer in Ireland after smoking.
Through this scheme, library users can borrow a digital radon monitor just like a book for three weeks, and this will give a good indication of radon levels in their home.
While this does not replace the recommended three-month test, the monitors offer a valuable first step in identifying potential radon issues.
You can visit www.radon.ie to get further information on testing your home and reducing high levels to keep you and your family safe.
This is a Healthy Ireland at Your Library initiative, supported by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), to raise awareness of radon and promote proactive health measures.
Some fantastic work done this morning with over 500 native trees planted by the Lismore Park Residents’ Association with St. Paul’s Students and Trees for Life from the Lions Club, who have planted thousands of trees across the city, growing pocket forests.
A brilliant initiative by the Lions Club.
St Paul’s Football Club remembered the glory days recently with a great win over Red Star in Division 1 B. St. Paul’s recorded a fine 4-2 away win against Red Star and, in doing so, held their place near the top of the League Table.
On the day, the city side were too good for the opposition and were 3 goals up after 20 minutes.
Johnny Byrne lobbed a clever ball over the goalkeeper’s head to score the first. Tony Hearne scored the second direct fron a corner and Kevin Halloran scrambled in the third during a goalmouth melee.
Kevin Halloran also scored his side’s fourth goal late in the second half.
Red Star tried hard to come to terms with the fast and hard running St. Paul’s team and pulled the score back to 3-1 at one stage, but in the end had to admit defeat.
Anyone remember what year this game was played?
