It was with deep sadness that we recorded the passing of Dan Spillane, late of Seaview Park, Tramore, Co. Waterford, formerly of Donnybrook, Douglas, Cork, and previously of Ford, Cork, and Nacanco, Waterford. Dan passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday, November 8. He was predeceased by his beloved parents, John and Elizabeth. Dan was deeply loved and will be fondly remembered by his heartbroken wife Rosaleen; his children Anthony, Derek, Jennifer, and Orla; his adoring grandchildren Rebecca, David, and Chloe; his sister Betty, in Australia; his daughter-in-law Carmel; his son-in-law Pat; Anthony’s partner Wendy; and Orla’s partner Todd. He was also cherished by his nieces and nephews, extended family, relatives, wonderful neighbours, and many friends. Widely described as a “gentle giant,” Dan was a warm, friendly, and larger-than-life character who always had time for others. He was remembered as a true gentleman with a love of sport, particularly soccer — many recalled his time “in goal for Ringmahon Rangers” and his earlier involvement with Douglas Hall AFC. Dan remained deeply connected to his community, serving as a trustee of St. Columba’s Hall in Douglas even after moving to Waterford. His repose took place at Falconer's Funeral Home, Riverstown, on Monday, followed by his Requiem Mass on Tuesday at The Church of the Holy Cross, Tramore, after which he was laid to rest in St. Declan’s Cemetery.
